The driving force behind Big D Country is founder and co-owner Alan McCall. Born with cataracts, he has never been one to let the disability stop him from persuing his dream.
That dream has always been radio. From winning an Elvis Presley 45-rpm record from former country station WMEN to sitting in with some of the DJs at WTNT back in the mid-1970s, he has had a long-time fascination with radio. Eventually, he was hired as an overnight board operator for WTAL, later moving to daytime and evening air shifts and assisting the music director in selecting songs for airplay.
He later completed his degree in Mass Communications from Florida State University in 1984, while working for the FSU Media Relations Office and Christian radio station WCVC. He went on to work three stints for WCVC, including one as local station manager and later, after getting married, in a slightly lesser role as operations manager.
After being out of the workforce for several years in order to be available for family matters, he has moved to the challenge to make WDXD Radio into a viable enterprise and local community-oriented radio station.
